Thoughts | 5 things... Autumn

It's autumn in the north... My favourite season. It is also October, the month of my birthday.


It makes a lot of more sense to talk about the seasons as they are in the North. Nothing really changes around here, at least not in the way it's supposed to. Today, for instance, it is raining, and I am sitting outside, wearing a jumper and drinking a cup of tea. The sky is grey - my favourite color for the sky - and it's been raining the entire morning. It smells like rain.

A few metres away from me the grass is full of leaves and flowers, fallen from the one tree in our garden than actually sheds its leaves. It's almost as if it's autumn today. And it is a beautiful day.

Perhaps I should take some pictures of what October looks like around here. This post mainly contains images I found around tumblr, and they are certainly much more beautiful than I could have managed. The one exception is the very last picture of the post. I took that one last October, while I was walking to Uni... It's what autumn looks like in the North of England, at least through my eyes...

The Word

Autumn comes from latin, autumnus, a reference to the time of harvest.

It i salso (I agree with Buzzfeed on this) undoubtedly the most elegant name for a season...

The colors

Shades of Orange, Red, Brown and Yellow  are everywhere. The sunset is twice as lovely and everything looks more beautiful against that background.

And everything looks like a painting.

The Weather  

Scarf Season for us, right, Henry?

It’s neither too cold nor too warm. Autumn is the perfect season for scarfs (and therefore, to dress more elegantly). It’s also nice to warm one’s fingers in a mug of tea or hot chocolate or to feel the warmth of a fire.

It's sweater season... Well, scarf season for myself and Henry, actually...

Os cheiros e sabores

Autumn tastes like pumpkin, cinamon and chocolate. And it smells like rain...

The sounds

The sounds of crackling leaves and branches that make you feel like you’re in a fairy tale forest... And the sound of the Wind

Also, one of my favorite songs is Autumnsong by the Manic street preachers (It speaks tom my long  lost wish to color my hair in bright and diferente colors... Not to mention the clip feels like friendship).

Autumn at Newcastle upon Tyne... Walking to uni. I had just this view every day for as long as autumn lasted... Stunning, isn't it? I took this picture myself, some day in october. Life was so different this time last year...
